Sun Safety at Springfield!

At Springfield we are taking part in the Sun Safe Schools accreditation programme to promote the health and well being of our children in the sun whilst they are at school. As we start to come into the warmer months and the sun is at it’s peak, we want to teach our children the importance of staying safe and enjoying the sunshine together. At the beginning of each day, we will be monitoring the UV levels, ensuring that our children have plenty to drink during school and staying in the shade at playtimes when the sun is strongest. Children will be asked to make sure they have a wide brimmed hat to wear at school and that they have sun cream applied at the beginning of each day before coming to school. We will be advising parents to give their child a named bottle of sun cream to keep in school so that they can reapply as necessary.

The following letter to parents and carers gives guidance and advise on ways we can help keep each other safe.

Year 1 Phonics Screening

During the summer term, Year 1 children complete a phonics screening which enables us to see what level they are attaining with their reading. The check allows teachers to see which children are making sufficient progress with their phonics. It is taken individually by all year 1 children in England.

Please follow the link to find out more information on the screening-
