Calculation policies

Throughout their time at Springfield, we work to develop children’s understanding of mathematical methods and build their knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

There are a number of different ways to teach maths and it is important for you to understand how your child will be taught in school so you can best support them at home.

The following documents have been drawn up by maths leaders across East Worthing and outline the calculation methods we teach at Springfield. When supporting your child at home with maths work it would be helpful if you could reinforce these methods rather than teach them the way that you were taught yourself. Please ask your child’s teacher if you would like any further guidance.
