Year 2

Here is our Meet the Teacher presentation.

Year 2 is the final year of Key Stage 1 of the National Curriculum and will see children further developing their skills in phonics, writing and maths in preparation for the transition to junior school for Year 3.

In Year 2, we work hard to develop independent learners who are curious about the world around them, able to problem solve, work collaboratively and express their opinions. At Springfield, we have a creative curriculum and this is interwoven throughout the children’s learning.

Our Year 2 children have secure understanding of our school ‘I CAN’ values. They can talk about these confidently and explain how they have been or shown Inclusive, Creative, Ambitious and Nurturing.

Our children will become confident readers, who can enjoy reading and choose to read texts from a range of high-quality authors. In Year 2, our children see themselves as writer’s and they take part in fun, whizzy writing. They are aware of our writing non-negotiables and they use these confidently. Our children, draw upon their reading to support their writing and this enables them to write elaboratively and with expression. At Springfield, our Year 2 children are inquisitive mathematicians. They enjoy maths and in Year 2 they develop their problem-solving skills further and are confident with explaining their understanding and reasoning.

By the end of year 2, children will be well prepared for their move to the junior school of their choice, where they will continue

Writing Meeting

Thank you to everyone that was able to join us for our writing meeting. Please find the Power Point Presentation from the meeting below.

Class Animals

In association with the WWF, every class at Springfield has a class animal. This is a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn about countries and environments, which are different to those they have seen before. Furthermore, it supports the children’s understanding of the very important issue of, looking after our planet. Please see our class animals below.
