If you are a parent or carer and would like your child to attend Springfield Infant School, you should firstly check West Sussex County Council’s School Places Information Website: https://www.westsussex.gov.uk/education-children-and-families/schools-and-colleges/school-places/apply/starting-school-places/, and then contact our School Office to book a viewing.

Applying for a place at Springfield

To apply for a place at the school you will need to apply online via the West Sussex County Council:

The Admissions Office deals with admissions for all schools throughout West Sussex.  Springfield Infant School admits up to 60 children in each year group and is not able to exceed this number.

Springfield Infant School Admissions Policy

Our Admissions Policy is common to all Local Authority and Controlled schools in West Sussex whose selection of pupils is based on catchment areas.  To view or download the current Policy please click here.

Finding a school for your child

You can find your catchment area schools by following the link below to West Sussex County Council’s School Admissions web page:

If you live outside the catchment area you may still apply for admission to Springfield Infant School but obtaining a place will depend on how many other applications are made for the same year group.

Your child’s place at Springfield Infant School

Before children start school at Springfield they are invited to attend play and story time sessions with their parent or carer. We will introduce you and your child to the school building, the pattern of the school day and (most importantly) to the adults which you and your child will grow to know.  Your child’s teacher and teaching assistant will also offer you a home visit to get to know you and your child better and to welcome you to the school.

For all children starting school in Reception there is a comprehensive induction programme in the summer term, prior to starting school in September.

Since September 2011, parents of Reception aged children have the right to choose whether they wish their child to start school full-time or part-time, subject to the caveat that children are receiving full-time education in the term following their fifth birthday.  Parents continue to have the right to defer entry to later in the academic year and, in such cases, a place offered in Reception will be held open for the child for that intake year.  If your child is offered a place in Reception at this school we will discuss with you your starting school preference.
