Marc Abraham OBE Visit!

We were thrilled to welcome award-winning author and veterinary surgeon Marc Abraham OBE to Springfield for a very special visit. Marc shared his exciting new book, Leon’s Reef, captivating the children with a lively and engaging reading that sparked their imaginations and inspired a love of storytelling. The children thoroughly enjoyed hearing about the book, asking thoughtful questions, and meeting a real-life author. To round off a memorable visit, Marc kindly signed copies of Leon’s Reef, leaving many pupils with a wonderful keepsake from an unforgettable day. We are incredibly grateful to Marc for taking the time to visit us and inspire our young readers.

Time to Dance!

On Wednesday, 25th March, 14 of our Year 2 children took part in the dance extravaganza ‘Time to Dance’ at the Pavilion Theatre in Worthing. They have worked extremely hard, learning and perfecting a Jungle Book themed dance for the last 10 weeks. They performed to a packed house along with nine other schools and shone like the little stars they are. The roar and applause said it all! The children were amazing dressed as cheeky monkeys and danced their way through a very complex routine under the stage lights, all with huge smiles on their faces. A huge well done to all the children who took part – you showed true courage and made us all so proud!

Springfield Welcomes Worthing Mayor

On Tuesday, 10th February we were delighted to welcome the mayor of Worthing, Cllr Cathy Glynn-Davies into school to take an assembly. She told us all about her job as Mayor of Worthing and answered questions from the children, mostly about her gold chains!

She is passionate about the arts and encouraging creativity in young people and has decided to launch a Mayoral portrait competition to raise funds for her charities Worthing4Refugees, Worthing Food Foundation and Worthing Community Chest. She invited the children of Springfield to put their artistic skills to paper and enter for a chance to win one of 3 invites, along with their parents or guardians, to the Mayor’s Parlour for afternoon tea and to receive their awards! All the entries will be on display in the Town Hall for the public to enjoy for several weeks.

We will keep you updated with the winners!

John Bond Author Visit

We were very excited to welcome local author John Bond to Springfield last Friday! John took two workshops through the morning with our early years children followed by years 1 & 2. He started off by telling us about his childhood and how he came to find inspiration from the animals on the farm he lived on. John read his most popular books ‘How long is that dog?’ and ‘Mini rabbit not lost’ to the children before hosting a ‘draw along’ session. Each child was given a piece of paper and pencil and John took them through a step by step guide on how to draw the very long dog and mini rabbit!

Afterwards, John visited each class and personally signed and delivered any pre-ordered books!

A huge thank you to John for joining us at Springfield, the children all had a great day and said how much they enjoyed meeting him!

Harvest Festival

We held our annual Harvest Festival Assembly on Friday, 10th October and were overwhelmed with the kind and generous donations made by our parents.

Lots of children had made beautiful autumn and harvest pictures that they proudly displayed at the front of the hall.

Amy, from Turning Tides came in and spoke to the children all about the charity and how they help local people. She was amazed and extremely grateful at the amount of food donations that Springfield families were able donate to help refill their stocks for those in need.

Junior Governor Lunch

Our newly elected Junior Governors were out in force helping to serve lunch on Thursday, 2nd October. They chose their favourite special lunch menu of sausage and chips followed by apple crumble and ice-cream.

All of the children enjoyed joining in with lunch and the Governors were extremely helpful, cutting up food, serving, checking everyone was enjoying their lunch and clearing plates!

We celebrated World Book Day on Thursday, 6th March with lots of amazing costumes! Our children and staff all looked amazing and it was lovely to hear why they had chosen their characters and what they love about their chosen author’s stories. In class we looked at particular authors and illustrators and shared a story with children from other classes for our ‘Reading with Friends’ session.
