World Book Day 2025

We celebrated World Book Day on Thursday, 6th March with lots of amazing costumes! Our children and staff all looked amazing and it was lovely to hear why they had chosen their characters and what they love about their chosen author’s stories. In class we looked at particular authors and illustrators and shared a story with children from other classes for our ‘Reading with Friends’ session.

Our New Additions!

We have welcomed two new additions to our Springfield family this week! We would like to introduce our new guinea pigs who are residing in our library. They are both settling in well and have become an exciting talking point for all the children. We have named our ginger one ‘Peanut’ and are asking for suggestions from our children to decide on the name for the black/white/brown one. We hope they will bring lots of enjoyment and therapeutic support to our children. Keep a look out for lots of updates on what they get up to in the near future!

Springfield’s OUTSTANDING News!!

We are excited to announce that after our visit from His Majesty’s Ofsted Inspectors on the 14th & 15th January 2025, Springfield was graded OUTSTANDING in all 5 judgement categories!

The categories included are- ‘The quality of education,’ Behaviour and attitudes,’ Personal development,’ Leadership and management’ and ‘Early years provision.’

The inspectors quoted that ‘Pupils receive a truly excellent start to their education in every aspect of school life.’ As you will see it reads extremely well and as a school we are very proud.

Thank you all for your help and support in achieving this wonderful result.

EYFS Christmas Performance

Our children in Reception and Ducklings did an amazing job in their Christmas performances last week. It was wonderful to see so many parents and families coming in to support them. The children sang and narrated with confidence as they retold the Christmas Story, smiling throughout. They all looked fantastic, well done to everyone involved!

Ice-Skating Trip!

Our KS1 children in Dolphins, Tigers, Frogs and Hedgehogs all had an amazing time on their trip to Worthing’s ice rink on Tuesday 10th December.

We travelled from school to Steyne gardens by coach and for most of the children, it was their first time stepping out on to the ice! Once they had donned their skates there was no stopping them! With the help of some of our lovely parents, school grown ups and the rinks very own resident penguins, you could see their confidence growing by the minute. Each child was wearing a huge smile by the time we left and said how much they had enjoyed themselves!

Christingle

On Monday 2nd December the whole school visited Reverend Gary at St Stephens Church on Angola Road. With the help of Open the Book, he told us the Christmas story. He told us about Baby Jesus being born in a stable and asked some of us to help with the story; some children with Mary and Joseph, some children were angels,  whilst others were sheep being looked after by their shepherds.
We then learnt what a Christingle is and made one each. He explained what each part of the Christingle meant and the children listened carefully.
All the children listened beautifully, sang some Christmas songs and made beautiful Christingles. The children took their Christingles home and it was lovely to see the children had put there’s back together and enjoyed their family about the visit to the church.

Springfield Week!

Last Monday we took part in another fun filled Springfield Week! We welcomed special guests as well as having a fun, sports focus taking part in activities in the classrooms, football skills with Brighton and Hove Albion and an interactive session with Perform drama.

Our Monday guests included internet star Jump Start Jonny, who had all the children and staff up on their feet for an energetic start to the morning. Jonny visited the classrooms and chatted with lots of the children. They all had a fabulous time and were so excited to stop and share stories with him. In our afternoon assembly, we welcomed Olympic and world champion Archer, Bryony Pitman. Bryony explained to the children how she started in archery, how she trains and what she has learnt along the way. She bought in her bow and arrows to show the children and presented lots of photos of her competing.

We took part in our regular Springfield Stride and honed our football skills with Alan from Brighton and Hove Albion who comes in every week to work with the children. Perform Drama joined us on Wednesday for an exciting interactive session. The focus was ‘In Space’ and the children learnt how to put on their space suits, taking off in their space ships and hurtling through space past planets, galaxies and stars.

We finished off the week by ‘Going Wild for Children in Need.’ Children and staff were encouraged to come to school dressed as a wild animal or in animal print clothing. There were some very wild and wonderful outfits, it felt like school had turned into a zoo for the day!

A big thank you to all our guests and everyone who got involved.

Parent Writing Workshops

Thank you to all our Springfield parents who were able to join us for our parent writing workshops. Please see the following links to the presentations that the class teachers delivered and helpful information to help support your child at home in their writing.

Reading with Friends

To go with our strong focus in school of reading, the children have been taking the time to share stories with each other between different year groups. It was so lovely to see our Year 1 & 2 children take the time to read and share a book with our new Reception children who listened beautifully and were able to ask questions about the story. With so much positive feedback, this is something we will continue to do throughout school and look forward to our Reception children reading to their older peers.

Junior Governors Lunch

Junior Governors Special Lunch- 3rd October 2024

In our hope to encourage all our children to enjoy a healthy hot school lunch. Our Junior Governors chose a special delicious menu and invited everyone to join them for lunch. They served, helped the younger children cut up their meal, talked to them and cleared up.  Lunch time was enjoyed by all!
